Welcome to Development Studies

Development Studies is an interdisciplinary area of study which focuses on the development of 'Third World' countries - their culture, economy, society, history, politics, etc - within a global context. It involves analysing how societies are transformed by historical and contemporary processes of social change, and examining deliberate efforts - through governments, development agencies, and social movements - aimed at progress in the vital problems facing many parts of the world.

The Centre for Development Studies at Flinders University coordinates an interdisciplinary teaching program that draws on development expertise from a range of disciplines and schools in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Flexible delivery

For students who wish to pursue a Graduate Certificate or a Graduate Diploma in International Development, the Centre for Development Studies offers a flexible delivery program (on-line) via the internet.
