Consultancy Capabilities

  • Consultant to Commonwealth, State and Local Government bodies on urban policy issues, particularly those related to disadvantage and spatial inequality. Experience includes the following:
  • 1990-1: Consultant to the South Australian Planning Review on the identification of areas of disadvantage within metropolitan Adelaide.
  • 1996: Consultant to the Commonwealth Department of Housing and Urban Development to produce (with Beer, A.P.) The Australian National Overview of Areas of Social and Economic Disadvantage in Australian Cities, for submission to the OECD Project Group on Distressed Urban Areas.
  • 1999-2000:Consultant to the South Australian Department of Human Services on the incidence of social disadvantage in Adelaide's outer southern suburbs.
  • 2000: Consultant to the City of Playford on processes and patterns of socio-economic change within the City, 1991-96

Current and Recent Scholarly Activities

  • Analysis of the policy implications of changing patterns of residential differentiation in Australian cities between 1991 and 2001, in relation to current debates about economic restructuring, demographic change, changes in housing markets and issues of social exclusion and social capital.
