Project
Prevalence and cross-cultural comparison of adolescent daytime sleepiness.
Compared to adolescent good sleepers, adolescents who have insufficient
sleep are more likely to have problems with attention and memory, lower
grades, social and behavioural problems, low self-esteem, and greater
depression, anxiety, health problems, risky behaviour and drug and alcohol
use. This project aims to identify the prevalence and daytime sequelae
of sleep problems in Australian adolescents. Cross cultural comparisons
will be made with a data set from a U.S. study examining adolescent sleep
and a theoretical model of the relationship between sleep variables, mood,
daytime functioning and school performance will be tested on both Australian
and U.S. data. |
