Project
Cognitive behaviour therapy for child and adolescent insomnia.
My project will involve the evaluation and implementation of a cognitive
behavioural treatment program for child and adolescent insomnia. Evidence
suggests that up to 30% of school-aged children experience insomnia or insomnia-type
symptoms. Furthermore, such sleeping problems have been associated with
a number of negative outcomes including for example; anxiety, depressed
mood, decreased attention and concentration, reduced academic achievement,
increased somatic complaints, daytime sleepiness and fatigue, and also increased
irritability.
Despite this, research into the assessment and treatment of child and
adolescent insomnia remains in its infancy. Therefore, my study will be
one of the first studies to examine a psychologically-based treatment
program for child and adolescent insomnia. |
Other Interests
I am really interested in all areas of child and adolescent clinical and health
psychology. I have a particularly strong interest in childhood insomnia, mood
disorders, and schizophrenia. I am also interested in treatments for sleep
problems in children with developmental delays and other intellectual disabilities. |
Work
I am currently employed by Assoc.
Prof. Tracey Wade to administer the Eating Disorder Examination (EDE)
to adolescent girls as part of the project entitled "Adolescent girls'
eating: How do genes and the environment influence it?". |
